The University of Macerata can boast an ancient tradition. Indeed, according to some scholars its origins date from 1290, the year in which a Studium Legum was opened by Giulioso di Montegranaro. According to others, the official foundation took place only with a Papal Bull issued by Paul III on 1st July 1540. After the suppression of the University in 1809, all the faculties were re-opened in 1816. However, they were suppressed again in 1860, with the exception of the Faculty of Law (114). The Faculty of Humanities was established in 1964. Faculties of Political Science, the Science of Banking and the Communication Science were recently opened .
